Buh-Bye Boring Food…

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be so daunting, or boring! These days making healthy (and delicious) choices is incredibly easy, and literally only a few clicks away. There are many food subscription options available to try that are curated to suit anyone’s dietary needs. Whether you are cooking for one or, for your family, having the option to click and choose from a selection of meals makes dinner prep SO much more enjoyable.

What is a food subscription box?

What exactly is a food subscription box? A food subscription box is a weekly subscription that arrives each week at your door with ingredients for each meal pre-portioned for you. This is a great way to watch your portion control, reduce food wastage, save money and experiment with different meals. Reducing the need to plan your meals or run to the grocery store having the convenience of a food subscription makes life a little less stressful.

One of the most well know food subscription boxes in North America is HelloFresh, but did you know that the concept of food subscription boxes actually originated in Sweden in 2007 (fun fact!) – there are also more than 150 different food box subscriptions to choose from just in the US alone. Crazy, right?! Although we are not going to dive deep into the history of food subscriptions, what we are diving into is the options available to you locally in Ontario.

Where to begin?

With plenty of options to choose from we are just going to focus on a couple options to get you started.

Chefs Plate (a division of HelloFresh) is a Canadian company that delivers weekly meals, which you can select from 16 options so you never have to create the same, redundant meals. The average cost per meal starts at $8.99. With a risk-free subscription, you can cancel anytime, or skip a week if you aren’t interested in the options. Keep an eye out for their excellent promotional pricing too!

Good Food is a Canadian company that aims to make dinner time (or any meal) fun, fast and healthy. With Classic options, Clean15 (clean meals in 15 minutes), Easy Prep (under 20 minutes) and Vegetarian options, Good Food is easily a good choice. The average meal (without a coupon applied) $11+, like other subscriptions Good Food offers a risk-free subscription approach – skip, cancel, order within an allotted time frame each week.

Mama Earth is a GTA-based fresh fruit and vegetable box that gets delivered to your door weekly. Mama Earth supports small-scale, local organic farmers, you can learn more about the farmers they work with so be sure to check out https://www.mamaearth.ca.
