It’s that time of year friends…Spring has officially sprung! I am beyond excited to welcome a brand new season. Now everyone associates Springtime with the dreaded Spring cleaning (insert dramatic music here) but, let’s put a positive spin on this and have some fun with cleaning.
Enjoy some of these tips down below for what to clean around your home and when!
Make it Fun and Make a Plan!
Well, okay, let’s be real, unless you are Monica Geller (The One Where We Attempt To Clean) not all of us enjoy the idea of cleaning but, we can’t deny that we LOVE a clean house, and did you know that you can burn 100 calories per hour with some house cleaning? Umm, that’s a bonus! A clean house and burn some unwanted calories. To get into that cleaning mode I love to listen to my fave playlist and turn it up (loud) – setting the vibe for my cleaning spree. Spring cleaning can get a bit overwhelming, so coming at it with a plan can help ease the daunting task of cleaning. Breaking it up into a couple of days, or dedicating one day a week to cleaning one specific room at a time can help to make the process of cleaning and decluttering more enjoyable!
What to Clean and When
Whether you live in a condo or a house, there are areas within our home that tend to get neglected and need some frequent or seasonal cleaning. If you are diligently cleaning your home, or just need a few tips for when things need to be done within your home, keep reading for a few helpful tips and timelines:
Weekly Tasks
Sweeping and mopping
Sanitizing bathrooms, kitchen counters and sinks, sanitizing toilets (even behind the bowl), showers and bathtubs
Wash your bedding (especially pillowcases)
Clean out your refrigerator – no need to hold on to any science experiments growing in old Tupperware (ew)
Monthly
Take a broom to your ceilings (spiders – create a mess and don’t pay rent)
Empty the crumbs from your toaster *note to self*
Sort through Tupperware drawers and match lids to bottoms
Dust lamp shades, shelves and decor within your home
Vacuum your couch cushions, your mattress and under your bed
Flip your mattress!
Clean inside and outside of windows and sills
Dust ceiling fan blades (if you have a ceiling fan of course)
Quarterly
Wash your walls – damp cloth helps remove any surface dust stuck to the walls
Replace your air filters – these collect dust, hair, spiderwebs, pollen and dander. You can even vacuum filters monthly!
Clean up top, behind and underneath your refrigerator
Remove items from your cabinets and dust the shelves – this is a great time to reorganize your cabinets and declutter any unwanted items.
Deep clean your washer and dryer (inside, outside and behind)
Yearly
Steam Clean carpets, check your air ducts (every 2-3 years get a professional cleaning)
Defrost and clean out your freezer (toss out freezer burnt leftovers your mom sent home with you)
Purge clothing you no longer wear or fit into (donate to a shelter)
Reorganize your closets – save space by moving seasonal clothing into storage
I hope you found these tips helpful! Enjoy Spring cleaning 2021!
